Qatar Airways Carry-On Size and Weight Limits (2026)
Qatar Airways allows one carry-on of up to 50 × 37 × 25 cm (20 × 15 × 10 in) in Economy, weighing no more than 7 kg (15 lb) in total. Business and First Class passengers may bring two pieces up to 15 kg (33 lb) combined, at the same size limit. The size limit is stricter than the standard US 22 × 14 × 9 inch carry-on, and it applies to every cabin.
That 20-inch length is the number that catches people out. A standard US-size carry-on is two inches too long for Qatar Airways, and the 7 kg weight limit is lower than many travelers expect. This guide covers both, plus the rules on personal items, laptop bags, liquids, and enforcement.
Last updated: October 12, 2026. Qatar Airways' own baggage pages blocked our automated checks, so these figures come from Qatar's published limits as relayed by several travel publishers (updated between February and April 2026). Confirm against your ticket before you fly.

Qatar Airways Carry-On Limits at a Glance
| Cabin | Carry-on pieces | Max size per piece | Max weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | 1 | 50 × 37 × 25 cm (20 × 15 × 10 in) | 7 kg (15 lb) |
| Business | 2 | 50 × 37 × 25 cm (20 × 15 × 10 in) | 15 kg (33 lb) combined |
| First | 2 | 50 × 37 × 25 cm (20 × 15 × 10 in) | 15 kg (33 lb) combined |
Two route exceptions are reported. On flights to or from Brazil, Economy passengers are listed at 10 kg (22 lb) instead of 7 kg. Sources also report that flights departing the US are limited to one piece plus one personal item, in line with TSA rules. Our airline database also has a Qatar Airways page.
Does a Standard Carry-On Fit?
Usually not. The standard US carry-on size is 22 × 14 × 9 inches. Against Qatar's 20 × 15 × 10 inches, that is a mismatch:
| Measurement | Standard US carry-on | Qatar Airways limit | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length (tallest side) | 22 in (55.9 cm) | 20 in (50 cm) | Over by 2 in |
| Width | 14 in (35.6 cm) | 15 in (37 cm) | Fits |
| Depth | 9 in (22.9 cm) | 10 in (25 cm) | Fits |
Qatar's limit is a different shape rather than strictly smaller. It is shorter but wider and deeper. A squat, boxy bag may pass where a tall, thin one fails. Measure with wheels, handles, and external pockets included, since that is what the sizer captures.

The 7 kg Weight Limit
In Economy, the 7 kg (15 lb) limit applies to your carry-on and, according to one publisher's reading of the policy, to your personal item combined. That is a tight budget. A bag can use half of it before you pack a single item.
- Weigh the empty bag first. Many hardside carry-ons weigh several pounds before you load them. Our guide to carry-ons under 7 lbs lists bags that leave room for clothes.
- Weigh the packed bag at home. Use a luggage scale rather than guessing.
- Wear the heavy items. Jackets, boots, and a power bank in a coat pocket come off the bag's weight.
Enforcement varies. CabinZero's guide says Qatar does not have a reputation for being overly strict with hand luggage but warns that the weight limit can be enforced strictly. A German travel FAQ reports that bags are sometimes weighed at the check-in counter or randomly at the gate. Plan for the limit, not for leniency.
Personal Items and Laptop Bags: Sources Disagree
This is the part of Qatar's policy that publishers read differently, so plan conservatively.
- One reading: All passengers may bring one personal item, such as a handbag or laptop bag, that fits under the seat, and in Economy the 7 kg is combined across both.
- The other reading: A laptop bag carried separately counts as your one Economy cabin piece, so the safest plan is to put the laptop inside your main carry-on.
Publishers agree that some small items are allowed in addition to the allowance. The lists reported include a handbag or small briefcase, a coat or blanket, an umbrella, a walking stick or crutches, a small camera or binoculars, a small amount of reading material, a baby carrier, and duty-free purchases made on the day of travel.
The safe plan: pack your laptop in your main carry-on. If you carry a handbag, keep it small and treat anything else as potentially counted against the allowance. For under-seat sizing, see our underseat bag guide and carry-on versus personal item.
Liquids, Power Banks, and Electronics
- Liquids: Qatar's rules, as reported, limit containers to 100 ml (3.4 oz), carried in one resealable transparent bag of up to 1 liter, one per passenger. Medication, baby food and milk, and special dietary items are exceptions. If you connect through the US, the TSA's 3.4-ounce, quart-size rule also applies. See our TSA liquids guide.
- Power banks and spare batteries: Cabin baggage only, never checked.
- Electronics: UK- and US-bound flights from Doha may involve enhanced screening, and devices must have enough charge to switch on. Keep your laptop, tablet, and e-reader charged.
If Your Bag Is Too Big or Too Heavy
If your bag fails the sizer or the scale, expect to be asked to check it. We found no published fee schedule in the sources we reviewed, so check your booking or ask at the counter. Our guide to why carry-ons get gate-checked covers what usually happens.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the carry-on size for Qatar Airways?
The maximum is 50 × 37 × 25 cm (20 × 15 × 10 in) for each piece, in every cabin. Measure with wheels, handles, and pockets included.
What is the carry-on weight limit for Qatar Airways?
Economy passengers are limited to 7 kg (15 lb). Business and First Class passengers are allowed two pieces up to 15 kg (33 lb) combined. Economy passengers on flights to or from Brazil are listed at 10 kg (22 lb).
Does Qatar Airways weigh carry-on bags?
Sometimes. Sources say bags may be weighed at check-in or at random at the gate, and that Qatar is not known for being especially strict. The limit still applies, so plan to stay within it.
Can I bring a laptop bag and a carry-on on Qatar Airways?
It depends on how the policy is read. Some sources say a laptop bag counts as a personal item in addition to your carry-on, and others say it counts as your one Economy cabin piece. Pack the laptop inside your carry-on to avoid the question.
Does a standard 22-inch carry-on fit Qatar Airways?
Not by the stated limit. Qatar's maximum length is 20 inches, and a standard 22-inch bag is 2 inches over. Choose a bag at or under 50 × 37 × 25 cm.
Is the limit the same on Business Class?
The size limit is the same. Business and First Class allow two pieces and a combined weight of 15 kg (33 lb).
Final Take
Check the length first and the weight second. A 20-inch bag with an empty weight under 3 kg (6.6 lb) leaves you enough room to pack 4 kg of clothes in Economy, which is why the weight limit is usually the harder of the two to meet. Pack your laptop inside the carry-on and confirm the current limits on your ticket before you leave.
